Symptoms and Prevention of Urinary Tract Infection

A urinary tract infection commonly known as UTI is an infection that originates from the urinary system. If this infection is not treated earlier, this can infect the bladder and eventually, the kidneys.

Women are more prone to suffer from UTI than men. Not all infected people will recognize signs of urinary tract infection. Some early signs of urinary tract infection include: a strong and persistent need to urinate; there is a burning feeling while urinating; the person frequently urinates in small amounts; the urine is cloudy and strong smelling; and at times, there is blood in the urine accompanied by intense pain of the urinary tract.

When the infection reached the bladder, the person will feel a strong pelvic pressure. There will be discomfort of the lower abdomen. Urination will be frequent and painful and the urine will be strong smelling and cloudy. Untreated infection that reached the bladder will progress to infecting the kidneys. At this stage, the person will feel upper back and flank pains. This is accompanied by high fever with shaking chills, nausea and vomiting.

Urinary tract infection is caused by bacteria that enter the urinary tract through the urethra. If these bacteria multiplied and surpassed the infection-fighting properties of the urinary system, UTI develops. To reduce the risk of having urinary tract infection, a person must take plenty of liquids, especially water. Urinate as soon as you feel the urge. When you need to wipe, do so in a front to back manner to keep the bacteria from the anal portion in getting to the vagina and urethra. Females should avoid irritating feminine products and empty the bladder immediately after having an intercourse.

When urinary tract infection is already present in a person, the common cure are antibiotics and water therapy.
