The Many Uses Of A DNA Paternity Test

It must first be said that DNA paternity testing is a process of comparison, where the alleged or suspected parent's DNA is compared with the alleged or suspected child's own DNA. Without this comparison, DNA paternity testing will be futile. No conclusive determination will be achieved by using a single set of DNA findings alone.

That being said, DNA paternity testing has become an indispensable procedure in many aspects of familial relationships today.

* DNA tests are often resorted to as basis for establishing filiation. When the child's status is in doubt, or when a parent is dubious over his ancestral relation with the said child, a DNA test is conducted for each of the subjects to determine if, indeed, a parent-child, or even an ancestor-descendant, relationship exists between them. If conducted by a professional service duly accredited by the proper governmental agency, such findings are very much admissible in court hearing cases which may tackle the legitimacy of the child, successional rights of either the child or the parent, propriety of charging crimes aggravated by familial ties, child support, and divorce proceedings where infidelity is alleged. Such findings are strong enough to warrant a prima facie declaration of filiation or non-filiation.

* DNA tests do not serve a mere judicial purpose, however. It can also be used to determine the compatibility of the donor and the donee's organs, in case a transplant is planned.

* Additionally, a DNA test can also determine potential health hazards to the subject. Though generally, experts agree that a DNA test does not provide enough medical information to warrant conclusive findings, the lack of lack of DYS464 markers have been known to be a telling sign of infertility. Also, the presence of mtDNA haplogroup H may even reveal the development of sepsis, the infestation of harmful bacteria in the blood stream.

A DNA paternity test is one of modern technology's prized accomplishments. The cracking of the DNA code was a long and arduous process. Many people have tried since the DNA strand was first theorized. A lot of people have failed. Now that the DNA code has been unraveled, the benefits of the same have extended to familial concerns, an aspect that is closer to home, figuratively and literally speaking.

The fact is, the DNA strand has been accepted as the determinative signature of our distinctiveness, certain parts of which we share with our ancestry.
